INDIVIDUAL &
RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

FOR 40 YEARS, I HAVE WORKED AS A CLINICIAN WITH INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES, AND FAMILIES WHO SEEK SUPPORT IN DEALING WITH CHALLENGES OR TRANSITIONS IN THEIR LIVES.

I believe that therapy offers individuals a safe relationship to explore, discover and clarify the different aspects of their particular challenge or intention.

I also believe that a therapeutic process can foster healing and transformation. This means that I am interested in processes that don’t just fix problems, but deeply address and shift what underlies many of the challenges and roadblocks to thriving.

This requires that I bring presence and deep listening to each person, couple or family that I work with.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

People seek individual therapy for a number of reasons. Some are struggling with specific issues that may be creating challenges or are distressing. For example, depression, anxiety, struggles with eating problems and body-satisfaction, or low self-esteem.

Others are overwhelmed with difficulties that life has presented. Chronic illness and pain, trauma, grief and loss, and dealing with transitions, both natural and imposed, can be challenging.

Sometimes, people will seek therapy to explore issues related to workplace or career advancement.

As well, seeking therapeutic support can be helpful for personal growth and the development of greater capacities to thrive.

Investing in therapy brings priceless benefits for both you and your relationships.

I am very interested in integrating an awareness of cultural sensitivity and often explore the impact of larger societal and historical experiences that people have had that may be impacting their current functioning.

RELATIONSHIP THERAPY FOR COUPLES

Finding ease and balance in relationship can sometimes elude even the most committed couples. Given that life brings many stresses and strains, couples can struggle with how to navigate these changes together.

A couple relationship bears many roles and responsibilities. No two people are the same, with different life histories and perspectives. Sometimes these experiences can be so divergent that conflict arises. As well, memories from unresolved relational experiences can influence perception and responses in present-time.

As well, a relationship can be presented with stresses and transitions, which can sometimes challenge the way couples have learned to be with each other. For example, changes to the family configuration, receiving a promotion that takes one person away from the home, or dealing with financial or illness crises.

Therapy can help couples find strength through their differences and new ways through their challenges in order to bring them back into connection and harmony.

I often support people in fine-tuning these practices to their unique needs and preferences.

FAMILY THERAPY

We humans are incredibly social beings and the quality of our close relationships has a significant impact on our development and well-being. In fact, research has uncovered that the very function and structure of our brains and nervous systems are inextricably linked with our relationships.

Therefore, the relationships we have within are families are very important, deserving of attention and care.

Families come in all kinds of configurations and evolve over time. Family members have different roles and patterns of communicating, which can facilitate or detract from each person’s development.

As well, changes to the family system are inevitable with natural life-cycle transitions, such the birth of a child, the aging process, or providing elder care. However, families are also impacted by external influences like moving to a new community or job loss.

Family therapy can help navigate these and other challenges. It can assist with improving relationships, optimizing capacities for greater flexibility and adaptability, stability and aliveness, empathy and love.
